Bush Has Gone "Mad"

Mad magazine has recruited 10 Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonists to illustrate a 2-page spread in their next issue. The spread, or expose as the magazine is calling it, is titled, "Why George W. Bush Is in Favor of Global Warming." A writer for Mad came up with all of the different reasons Bush likes global warming, such as, “His worries about how future generations will remember his presidency won’t matter if there are no future generations,” and "Other potential upsides are that Iraq could literally be melted off the earth, and rising oceans could submerge lefty strongholds like New York, Boston and San Francisco," and the cartoonists took over from there. Mad's editor, and art director were the masterminds behind finding the cartoonists, and said that all 10 were happy to participate.

I think this is such a interesting spread, and it comes at such a great time, when our nation is all reved up about elections. Mad is known for it's cartoons on politicions, and getting 10 award winning cartoonists to do the spread on Bush, will just give it a little something special. I don't read Mad, but I think I may get this issue, as I am very curious as to what this will turn out like.

Mad is a great magazine for showing us the comedy side of politics. I believe that having a little comedy in our politics is a reminder that not everything has to be serious. We have to make fun of our government once in a while, because if we don't we are going to think that whatever the politicians push at us we are going to think it is important.

The Global Warming comic in the magazine is a good laughter, since they are many controversies over the issue that no one knows what to think anymore. A person can be believe in Global Warming or they will not.

This spread in the magazine is a way to get our focus off the elections for a little while and just have a good laugh.

As much as I would like to hold the president of our nation in high esteem, some of the ideas and "phrasiology" that he uses to describe them keeps me in stitches. I am constantly caught off guard and cannot help but chuckle, if just to myself. I am certainly no linguist, but I don't exactly advertise my lack of knowledge to the nation through inarticulate speeches and interviews. I think this issue will increase sales for Mad magazine, and good for them for their brilliance in humor. Of course the comments are exaggerated, but that is what makes it so entertaining. It cannot be said that George W. Bush never made the nation smile, no matter the cause.

Kudos, to Mad magizine for their accomplishment in receiving 10 Pulitzer awards. Its true that the President deserves respect for the position he hold, but this is only poking fun at him and not insulting him. The idea that glodal warming would raise water levels to the extent that they will flood Left-Wing cities is really clever. The topics covered in the bit are very serious and have direr consequences, but its nice to get time to set the world on hold for sigh of comedy relief.

To me it seems like "Mad" is one of those magazines that likes to make fun of politicians and others in the public eye, which you are always going to have. I don't know if I'd take their opinion of the matter that Bush is for global warming or doesn't pay attention to it.

I'm sure the "expose" will be hilarous. I had to do a report last semester on the politics surronding global warming and the things Bush said were ridiculous. I won't be suprised either if some people have a problem with it. That man should be portrayed for what he is, a joke.
